Water is one of the most important requirements for life on Earth. Humanity is inextricably tied to its sources of water, because water is essentially a source of life. In most areas, settlers established communities next to oceans, rivers, and lakes before populating the rest of the region. In the twenty-first century, pollution and resource depletion have become increasing problems as humans evaluate their relationship with water and their relationship with the rest of the biosphere. The issue of water- what it is, where it comes from, why we need it, and how we affect it- will always be relevant to human life.

This website will deal with the environmental science aspects of water, focusing especially on the interactions between humans and the aquatic systems of the world. In Water and Aquatic Ecosystems, we will learn the basic chemistry of the water molecule and the structure of various ecosystems. We will then learn about different ways people and the environment affect each other in Humans and Water, with a more in-depth focus on Water Pollution. Finally, these concepts will be applied in practical, real-world examples of Global Communities. Look for random quotes, fun facts, an image gallery, and quizzes (Media and Interact) to give you a different perspective on these interesting ideas.

It is our hope that after browsing through this website, readers will gain a more comprehensive view of how important water is in their lives and how important their actions are to the environment. Water-related issues will always exist in our world, and education is the first step in seeking solutions.
